The parking brake cable (or parking brake cable) is a key mechanical component in a vehicle's braking system. It connects the parking brake lever to the rear brake shoes via a steel cable. When the parking brake is applied, the cable tightens, pressing the brake pads against the brake disc/drum, preventing the vehicle from sliding unexpectedly on slopes or flat roads. If the primary braking system (hydraulic brakes) fails, the parking brake cable serves as a mechanical backup braking method, allowing manual operation to slow or stop the vehicle. Applying the parking brake while driving can easily cause the rear wheels to lock, the cable to break, and potentially cause a skid or rollover. The foot brake should be used first.
